HAUTERIVES - GORGES DU TARN CAUSSES

The hamlet of Hauterives is located a little downstream of Saint-Chély-du-Tarn, on the left bank of the Tarn. There is no bridge to access it. A small basket on cable carries materials or goods from one bank to another. The houses of the hamlet have retained their original characteristics. They are built only of stone, without wooden framework, according to the principle of semicircular arches and covered with limestone lauzes for the roof. The village was originally located at a location that would not encroach on cultivable land, and out of reach of the flood of the river.
